Each One, Reach One: The Importance of Being Seen!

On August 25, 2025, ANMQG Secretary, Melody Tharpe, made a Facebook post that reads:

I apologize upfront for length, but I wanted to capture the compassion, love and effort to make 1 person know and feel seen, loved, and respected. Mentor Steve is an awesome example of all. I am the least of the quilters in my guild, but my heart shines there.

Melody, I’m connecting you with Ed W.i, a longtime staff person at Trusted Mentors. He can connect you with the mentor, Steve C., and then you can figure out how to best get it to Dan. Thank you so much!! And if anyone has an opportunity for photos, I’d love to see them! Jeri

Subject: Fw: Dan’s quilt
Hi Steven – I got to speak to Jeri at Ed’s Farewell Open House. It looks as if the quilter of Dan’s quilt is happy for Dan to have it. Melody’s contact info is listed below.
Sorry for the delay in getting this info to you – it was like a game of telephone, where the original message was lost. I’m glad I’m able to get the info to you finally!

Thanks for the help tracking this down! Ed gave me the contact info and I was able to meet with Melody and pick up the fabric art.
I gave it to Dan this past weekend for Christmas and he was very happy to receive it. Picture attached.
Also a picture of Dan with the art when it was first on display at the Spirit & Place Festival in 2022. Also a pic of us with St Nick at the St. John’s Christkindl festival. Merry Christmas!

Hi everyone,
I visited Dan over the weekend. He has the fiber art on the wall next to his bed.
Melody, Dan wanted me to thank you for making the art. He says it is making a difference in his life. When he is feeling bad, he looks at it and sees ‘Daniel is Enough’ and it gives him strength.

Steve –
I’m so glad to hear that Dan receives strength from the art Melody made for him. It’s good to be reminded that art is so powerful.

I am so happy to hear this. It was my one focus during the creation of the artwork.

Steve, thank you for sharing this with us!! It talks of my 2 favorite things, the power of art and the power of relationships! Plus, Dan’s confidence that “Daniel is enough” is so inspirational. Thank you, Melody, for creating artwork that means so much!!

The Final Statement
I am sad to announce that Dan passed away suddenly over the weekend from complications from lung cancer.
Dan and his family were very appreciative of all the support he received from Trusted Mentors.
Dan had his fiber art hanging in his room till the end, and his family members enjoyed seeing it. I am so happy we were able to get it for him to keep and that he able to display it for his friends and family.
Steve
